Schools Enterprise and Work Based Learning
A unique, group-based scheme offering students aged 14-19 years typical working environment assignments in different disciplines, complete with practical hands-on work.
The one-day courses are predominantly related to the paper media industries but cover a wide range of curriculum areas. Based at the Paper Trail’s historic Frogmore Mill site, the birthplace of paper’s industrial revolution.
The courses encourage students to become more aware of manufacturing processes, commercial activities and their effects. They include:
- Graphic Design
- Paper Arts
- Recycling and the EnvironmentBecause of our unique location at a heritage paper mill, we also have facilities for:
- Restoration work
- Environmental studies
- Heritage crafts
Our Apsley Mills site, just 600 metres from Frogmore Mill along the River Gade and Grand Union Canal, offers a fully equipped digital training centre with 14 high-end computer workstations and smartboard teaching aid.
‘Going for Broke’ Business Enterprise game
- Going for Broke is a role playing business simulation game. It encourages students to think about business and enterprise and incorporates elements of art and design. This activity can be delivered in school – please phone for details – 01442 234600. Mill broke is any paper waste generated in a paper mill during the papermaking process. The game involves making products by utilising broke.Students work in teams and compete against each other to complete a project designed to include:
- Business and Enterprise skills
- Creative skills
- Health & Safety at work
- Key Skills including team work (Working with Others) and motivation (Managing own Learning)
Schools can book places for groups – the centre can accommodate up to 90 students per day for this activity. The minimum number for Going for Broke is 30 students.
Problem Solving Activities
A series of scenarios where students have to work out the answers for themselves, testing team work and lateral thinking. Challenging the use of the imagination and inspiration to solve given problems using limited materials.
Cost per student per day is £15 + VAT.
This course is also available to be delivered in schools in short, frequently delivered segments.
Students typically start at 9.30am and finish at 2.30pm.
